How to set up your swissmail.org account for Windows Mail

You will need the following information to setup your swissmail.org email account:

  • Your Incoming Mail Server (POP/IMAP) and Server Port Number

  • Your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and Server Port Number

  • Your email login name (user name/account name)

  • Your email address

You will find the necessary information by accessing your account via our WebSite at www.swissmail.org. To get your account specific information, log into your account, click on the ControlCenter button, click on "Accountdata" in the left hand navigation menu and scroll down to "Mailbox (POP3/IMAP) access settings".

Now you are ready to get started!

In Windows Mail, go to the Tools menu and click on Accounts.

Server Information
Incoming mail server (IMAP):
Choose one of the following incoming POP/IMAP* mail servers:
IMAP no SSL (unsecure): imap.swissmail.org (or imap.generalmail.com or imap.dombox.com)
IMAP with SSL (secure): secure.swissmail.org
POP no SSL (unsecure): pop.swissmail.org (or imap.generalmail.com or imap.dombox.com)
POP with SSL (secure): secure.swissmail.org

*POP and IMAP are protocols used by your email client. We recommend to use the IMAP protocol, as this protocol offers you the possibility to synchronize your emails between your PC/Mac and our server, i.e. your emails will not be deleted from our server (unless you delete them), whereas POP3 downloads the emails to your PC/Mac and deletes them from our server.

Log into your swissmail.org account, select “Controlcenter” and then “Accountdata” at the left to find your username.

Setup Email

In the Internet Mail Logon window, enter your username and password for your e-mail account (you don't need to enter the password, but if you do, you will automatically log on to the e-mail server every time you open Windows Mail as long as the check is in the box next to Remember Password).

You should see the following screen; check the Do not download my e-mail and folders at this time box, then click Finish.

Setup Email

You should now end up at the Internet Accounts screen; double-click on your e-mail account.

Setup Email

At the top of the Properties window that appears, click on the Advanced tab and verify your settings are the same as in the image below.
