How to set up your swissmail.org account for Outlook Express 6

You will need the following information to setup your swissmail.org email account:

  • Your Incoming Mail Server (POP/IMAP) and Server Port Number

  • Your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and Server Port Number

  • Your email login name (user name/account name)

  • Your email address

You will find the necessary information by accessing your account via our WebSite at www.swissmail.org. To get your account specific information, log into your account, click on the ControlCenter button, click on "Accountdata" in the left hand navigation menu and scroll down to "Mailbox (POP3/IMAP) access settings".

Now you are ready to get started!


In Outlook Express, go to the Tools menu and select Accounts...


Select the Mail tag in the Internet Accounts window, then select the Account you would like to change and click on the Properties button.


Select the General tag in the Properties window.

Email Setup

Mail Account
This will be your top folder heading in the folder section. Enter any name you like (e.g. Swissmail, John etc.).

User Information

Name: Type your name the way you would like people to see it when they get an email from you.

Organization: optional.

E-mail address: Enter your swissmail.org email address.

Reply address: optional.

Tick box: needs to be enabled.


Select the Servers tag in the Properties window.

Server Information

My incoming mail server is a ___ server: You can choose between POP3 and IMAP.

Incoming mail (IMAP/ POP3): Enter the respective IMAP/POP mail server.
secure email access: secure.swissmail.org
non-secure email access: pop.swissmail.org

Outgoing mail (SMTP): Enter the respective mail server, e.g. forsecure email access: secure.swissmail.org and for non-secure email access: smtp.swissmail.org.

Incoming Mail Server

Account name: Enter your User/Account Name.

Password: Enter your Password.

Outgoing Mail Server: Check "my server requires authentication". Click on the button "Settings..." and select "use same settings as my incoming mail server".


Select the Connection tag in the Properties window.

Use the information provided by your Internet Access Provider.

Email Setup

Select the Security tag in the Properties window.

Use Outlook Express' default settings.

Select the Advanced tag in the Properties window.

Outgoing mail (SMTP): Enter the appropriate port number of the outgoing mail server.

Tick box: select this box only if you have chosen the secure SMTP mail server.

Incoming mail (IMAP/POP): Enter the appropriate port number of the IMAP/POP mail server.

Tick box: select this box only if you have chosen the secure IMAP/POP mail server.

Select the IMAP tag in the Properties window.
